Utilizing the Versatile BioMicroLab VC384 for Transformed Volume Detection Workflows

With rapid and versatile automated non-contact solutions, the Adaptable BioMicroLab VC384 transforms volume detection procedures.

Eliminate Time-Consuming Visual and Manual Volume Inspection Tasks

The BioMicroLab VolumeCheck 384 is the recommended VolumeCheck model for most labs due to its fast scan speed, high accuracy, and compatibility with various labware.

It is entirely compliant with the users’ 384 well plates and uncapped tubes in 96, 48, and 24-format racks (no adapters or consumables required), and in fast scan mode, it can return the volumes of a 384 well plate in as little as 30 seconds.

Fastest Scanning Speed Boosts Efficiency

In as little as 30 seconds, VolumeCheck 384 can scan and identify sample volumes in 96 well plates.

Replaces Visual or Manual Inspection of Well Plates to Save Valuable Time

The VC384 employs cutting-edge ultrasonic technology to determine the distance between the sensor and the meniscus height.

Collects and Outputs Sample Volume Data for Each Well Position

The instrument interprets the distance using a user-created calibration table and outputs the volume for each well position.

Compatible with a Range of Labware and Solutions for Flexibility

The technique enables efficient sample volume measurement in a wide range of labware and is compatible with several sample types.

Highly Accurate System Detecting to Sub 2–3 μL

For 384 well plates, the VolumeCheck 384 liquid level sensor detects changes in sample volume in the sub 2–3 μL range.

Intuitive, User-Friendly Software Interface

The VolumeCheck software user interface is intended for quality control applications and features a straightforward display. Operators can scan rows, columns, or entire racks for the most efficient throughput.

Fast and Efficient Volume Detection Solutions

BioMicroLab VolumeCheck equipment is being used in laboratories worldwide for standalone, non-contact volume detection of samples in well plates and uncapped tube racks at high speeds of up to 30 seconds per rack.

Automation Benefits

  • Outputs sample volume for each well or tube
  • Replaces visual or manual inspection of well plates
  • Offers QC step for assay plate creation
  • Identifies and reports empty wells
  • Checks sample volume before and after liquid handling operations

Compatible Labware

  • Shallow/deep well plates
  • PCR plates/assay plates
  • 96, 48, and 24 SBS standard well labware
  • Uncapped or unsealed labware
  • Wide variety of common ANSI/SLAS standard racks and plates
  • Vials or tubes up to 92 mm in height
  • No consumables required—functions with users’ racks and plates

Operational Overview

The VolumeCheck measures the distance between the sensor and the height of the meniscus using ultrasonic technology. The volume is then calculated by extrapolating the distance from a calibration table that the user has created. The technology enables sample volume measurement in a wide range of labware.

The VolumeCheck software calibration wizard enables the user to efficiently produce the calibration table based on known volumes of a specific sample. Many calibration tables can be retained, making moving between sample and labware types simple.

The resolution and accuracy will be affected by whether the samples were centrifuged, any dimensional variation in labware consumables, the correctness of the user-created calibration tables, and the plate sample volume. When comparing low-volume plates to high-volume plates (PCR plates vs. 2.2mL deep well plates), the VolumeCheck returns a higher resolution.

The VolumeCheck has exceptional repeatability, making it an excellent choice for several volume inspection tasks.

VolumeCheck Software

  • Graphically reveals the well plate volumes in columns and rows
  • Produces an output file (.csv) of volume data on a well-by-well basis
  • User interface designed for quality control applications
  • Project-based software for multiple types of applications and labware
  • Includes plate data calibration table utility
  • Select rows or columns to scan for effective throughput
  • Easy-to-use Windows-based software
  • ActiveX toolkit available for integration projects
  • Prints or generates a PDF of plate reports

The VolumeCheck software calibration wizard lets the user quickly establish the reference curve, which is the volume vs. distance to the meniscus for a specific sample. Many reference curves can be stored, making moving between sample kinds and labware types simple.

OEM Compatibility

End-users, integrators, and other manufacturers can use BioMicroLab software development toolkits to integrate a BioMicroLab instrument seamlessly with other robotics and LIMS systems. The following manufacturers have integrated the BioMicroLab VolumeCheck:
