Overview

The Dispensing Cartridge from Cytena is a disposable and one-way dispensing cartridge.

This is a patented single-cell dispensing technology that has been developed by CYTENA, allowing single cells’ automated isolation developed by microfluidic experts to guarantee cell viability after dispensing process. This seems to be much gentler than hand pipetting. The instrument makes use of an inkjet-like principle that features a disposable, one-way dispensing cartridge.

Features

Low dead volume

It is possible to load up to 80 μL of single-cell solution with a dead volume of <1 μL

Ease of use

Single-use cartridges, developed for non-contact dispensing guaranteeing no cross contamination

Sterility

Single packed and UV sterilizable

Certified

BSE/TSE free, animal-component free, no cytotoxic materials included

How it works

This cartridge holds the users’ samples in a small reservoir. From this place, cells are transported into the microfluidic chip. Once the cartridge has been loaded, it can just be fixed to the dispenser. The dispenser’s piezo-electric plunger produces small droplets of cell suspension from the cartridge without getting in direct contact with the sample.

Every droplet that consists of a single cell of interest could be sorted into its preferred substrate. Also, it is possible to dispense as many single cells as users need with one cartridge. As soon as users change samples or isolated enough amount of cells, it is possible to just detach the cartridge and dispose of it.

An innovative approach

The single-packed, sterilized cartridges could just be loaded by hand-pipetting. Its silicon micro-fluidic chip produces free-flying picoliter droplets serving as transport vessels for the cells.

One cartridge has the potential to fill several well-plates with single cells. Once it is utilized, the cartridge is disposed of. This ground-breaking method avoids cross-contamination and saves cleaning steps.
