Overview
Lyophilized methacrylated Type I collagen in the amount of 100 mg is called PhotoCol®. PhotoCol® offers native-like 3D collagen gels that may be created at varied concentrations and photocrosslinked (needs a photoinitiator) to deliver varying gel stiffness.
PhotoCol® kits comprise purified methacrylated Type I bovine collagen as the core component along with other support reagents present in the kit. This PhotoCol® product just consists of methacrylate collagen. The kits each consist of the first three rows displayed below and come with the chosen photoinitiator.

The methacrylated Type I collagen has been produced from telo-peptide intact bovine collagen where the collagen has been subjected to alteration by reacting with the free amines.
This is mainly the ε-amines groups of the lysine residues as well as the a-amines groups on the N-termini. Almost, >20% of the total lysine residues of the collagen molecule have been methacrylated. The collagen has been withdrawn from the bovine hide and consists of a high monomer content.
